Conservation agriculture in the USA.

This chapter discusses the history and current status of conservation agriculture (CA) in the USA. Results are presented of research conducted to investigate the effects of CA on (i) soil quality, (ii) carbon sequestration, (iii) crop yields, (iv) runoff, infiltration, soil water content and soil conservation, (v) climate change adaptation and mitigation, (vi) insect pest and disease dynamics, and (vii) input use efficiency. The economic profitability of CA is also described. Some challenges that hinder the spread of CA in the USA are elaborated.
