Medical genetics.

This chapter describes some of the investigations that have been made into genetic influences on diseases in horses. Topics include simple Mendelian hereditary diseases and DNA testing, Mendelian disease genes not yet characterized at the DNA level, complex hereditary diseases and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and neonatal isoerythorolysis. The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals database, which includes information on hereditary diseases of horses, is also introduced.
