Phytophthora: a global perspective.

Book cover for Phytophthora: a global perspective.

This book begins with an account of the early history of Phytophthora research and the tumultuous events setting the genus in motion. In keeping with its controversial inception, the chapter on taxonomy and phylogeny makes a compelling case that our current notion of Phytophthora as a genus is illusory. This chapter sets the stage for the importance of molecular tools on these enigmatic pathogens....

Chapter 10 (Page no: 87)

Biology and management of Phytophthora capsici in the southwestern USA.

Phytophthora blight by Phytophthora capsici limits the profitable production of many crops in New Mexico, especially chili peppers (Capsicum annuum). The edaphic factors and phenology of P. capsici, zoospore attachment, wounding and infection, biological interactions with other pathogenic microorganisms of P. capsici, host range and population diversity, genetic resistance and gene expression, screening of resistant cultivars and accessions, crop attributes and P. capsici, biorationals and induced resistance, and the effect of irrigation, fungicides and cover crops on the control of P. capsici are discussed.
