Chapter 11 (Page no: 323)

Hydromineral balance, its regulation and imbalances.

This chapter discusses the maintenance of hydromineral balance, involving osmoregulation, water balance, ion balance, salt uptake and adaptation to sea water in fishes. Diseases that injure the barrier functions of the gills, skin and intestinal endothelium may result in osmoregulatory difficulties and subsequently death due to a combination of osmoregulatory and respiratory failure.
