Chapter 7 (Page no: 146)

The politics of resistance management: working towards pesticide resistance management globally.

This chapter discusses historic attempts at resistance management policy and their modern counterparts in order to identify key strengths and weaknesses that must be addressed in future policy initiatives. Recent worldwide developments in pesticide policy, like the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) in the USA, and the manner in which these regulations affect the use of pesticides, integrated pest management, and trade are evaluated comparatively. In addition, the chapter also addresses the role of institutions around the world responsible for insecticide resistance management including the international Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC), the United States Department of Agriculture Science and Management of Pesticide Resistance (WERA-60), and other efforts from across the globe.
