Plant genotyping: the DNA fingerprinting of plants.

Book cover for Plant genotyping: the DNA fingerprinting of plants.

Plant genotype analysis can be used for the identification of plants in commerce, plant breeding and research. This book examines the technology available and their application in the analysis of wild plant populations, germplasm collections and plant breeding. Special attention has been paid to microsatellite analysis, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and new technologies, such as mic...

Chapter 16 (Page no: 239)

Plant DNA extraction.

This chapter considers the range of techniques available for plant DNA extraction in relation to the wide variety of plant genotyping applications. Plant samples may be collected and stored. DNA may be extracted immediately or analysed directly. Stored plant samples may be extracted and the DNA either stored prior to analysis or subjected to immediate analysis.
