Transitions in the life of the gut at birth.

This review shows how some basic characteristics of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) (growth, digestion, absorption) change in the perinatal period of the pig, and how hormones (e.g. glucocoticoids) and food (e.g. colostrum and milk) influence the transition of the GIT from its silent being in utero to its highly active life just after birth.
