Field and laboratory methods for grassland and animal production research.

Book cover for Field and laboratory methods for grassland and animal production research.

Description

This book brings together a range of methods used to study grasslands (both temperate and tropical) and ruminant performance, including: grassland vegetation and its measurement; pattern analysis in grassland and animal production systems; modelling pasture and animal production; measuring botanical composition of grasslands; measuring sward structure; plant population dynamics in grasslands; meas...

Chapter 14 (Page no: 327)

Designing animal production studies.

The design and implementation of studies on animal (cattle, sheep and goats) production from both improved grasslands and rangelands is reviewed. Grazing system and stocking rate terminology, planning animal production studies, development of an appropriate experimental design, duration and start date of the experiment, and extension requirements are discussed.
