60 Mangalarga mares in Brazil in which the interval from first signs of oestrus to ovulation (detected by rectal palpation) was <5 days, 5-7 days or 8-21 days were inseminated with diluted, cooled semen that had been transported 15 km. Of mares in the 3 groups, 53.8, 52.17 and 66.67% respectively conceived to insemination during their 1st cycle, and the total CR was 50.0, 48.15 and 64.71%, the differences between groups being non-significant.
