Abstract

The use of deep-frozen bull semen in Bulgaria rose from 202 inseminations (out of 476 390) in 1967 to 177 561 inseminations (out of 526 592) in 1971.

Abstract

The number of artificially inseminated females in 1973 was 576 000 for cattle and 3 349 000 for sheep v 2737 and 56 000 resp. in 1947. The AI of pigs was started in 1965 and 16 799 females were inseminated in that year v 47 300 females in 1973.

Semen samples were collected from 8 buffaloes. Ejaculate volume averaged 3. 04 ml. and data were obtained on semen characters.
