The sperm-rich fractions of 163 ejaculates collected from 6 Beagles, aged 2 yr, were frozen. Glycerol was a much better cryoprotectant than DMSO. It was better to add the glycerol at 5 deg C rather than at 25 deg . However, a combination of glycerol and DMSO gave best results. Forward motility...

Abstract

478 ejaculates were collected from six 2-yr-old Beagle males , ejaculated twice weekly. Dilution with a Tris diluent proved superior to that with lactose and IVT diluents, and when glycerol was added before freezing, thawed ejaculates had a forward motility of 45-47%.

Abstract

In a trial involving 9 bitches, 8 were inseminated vaginally, using the conventional technique, with thawed semen; in the 9th female , after laparotomy, semen was deposited in the corpus uteri immediately after thawing. The 9th bitch alone conceived, and gave birth to 3 pups.
