Abstract

Data obtained in 1973-85 on 1844 mares at two studs in Germany were analysed. Pregnancy was confirmed 21 days and 150 days after mating in 86.5 and 75.0% resp. of mares, and 69% of the mares foaled. Conception rate and embryo mortality were significantly affected by stud, breed, year, age of mare...

Abstract

A machine originally designed in Japan to count human thrombocytes was used to measure sperm concentration in 56 ejaculates from 18 boars belonging to 4 breeds. There was a highly significant correlation of 0.99 between electronic and haemocytometer counts.

Abstract

After each of 10 consecutive kindlings, 27 New Zealand White rabbit does were inseminated with 1 ml rabbit semen diluted 1:8 with a Tris diluent after being injected with 10 mu g of LHRH (Lutal R) or 0.4 mu g of the Hoe 766 LHRH analogue. The inseminations were carried out at intervals of 32-35...

Abstract

Data on 1112 inseminations were analysed. Cows inseminated from 11 to 19 h after the onset of oestrus tended to produce a slightly higher percentage of female calves than cows inseminated earlier or later, but the difference was not significant.

Abstract

In a field trial with about 80 multiparous sows, it was found that insemination with mixed semen from 2 boars resulted in a 7% higher farrowing rate than insemination with unmixed semen. A further 12 sows were inseminated with mixed semen of 2 boars, the semen of 3 boars (A, B and C) being combined ...

Abstract

Some data are tabulated on rabbit semen extended in Tris-diluent and stored at 5 deg C for 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 days. The CRs achieved with it were 76, 79, 64, 63 and 45% resp., and litter size 5.6, 5.5, 5.7, 6.2 and 2.0. In an experiment in which 16 females were primed with Lutal, a synthetic...

Abstract

Split ejaculates of 15 boars were tested in 1535 inseminations to compare the use of heterospermic and homospermic semen samples. 862 homospermic inseminations resulted in a farrowing rate of 58.1% with 9.9 piglets per litter. After the use of 673 heterospermic semen samples 65.1% of the pigs...

Abstract

81 White Vienna rabbit does were inseminated with diluted semen from 7 males ; the semen had been stored at 5 deg C for 0, 2, 4 or 6 days prior to insemination. For females inseminated with the 4 types of semen, pre-implantation embryonic losses 6 days after insemination averaged 24, 10, 33 and 67% ...

Abstract

Data are tabulated on groups of cows (38-2705 animals/groups) inseminated at 2-h intervals from 1 to 30 h after first observation of oestrus. The CRs were highest for those inseminated after 15-18 h (80.5 and 80.9% resp.), and significantly better than the CRs for females inseminated within 11-15...
