Abstract

A synthetic strain of ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) was developed by introducing genes for long duration of fertility to be used as mother of mule ducklings and a seven-generation selection experiment was conducted to increase the number of fertile eggs after a single artificial insemination (AI) with ...

Abstract

Ducks (common, Muscovy and mule ducks) are the third most important bird species in animal production for human consumption worldwide. Our study aimed to improve the efficiency of mule duck breeding, thus contributing to the efficiency of food production in general. In the common duck, females can...

Abstract

A 12-generation selection experiment involving a selected line (S) and a control line (C) has been conducted since 1992 with the aim of increasing the number of fertile eggs laid by the Brown Tsaiya duck after a single artificial insemination (AI) with pooled Muscovy semen. On average, 28.9% of the ...

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyse the divergence of DNA sequences that occurred under the effect of artificial insemination during the breeding process. The initial intensive duck breeding was performed in Russia using Medeo cross parent lines M1 and M2. In <2 years, a new cross Blagovarskii (lines B1 and B2) and a Bashkir coloured breed (lines BC1 and BC2) were bred. Blood samples of Medeo cross M1 and M2, and Blagovarskii lines B1 and B2 were collected on 1996 and 1998. During this period, two successive generations were developed (F1 and F3). A population of coloured...
