Disease Information

OIE Resources

Manual of Diagnostic Tests and Vaccines for Terrestrial Animals
This manual aims to facilitate international trade in animals and animal products and to contribute to the improvement of animal health services world-wide by providing internationally agreed diagnostic laboratory methods and requirements for the production and control of vaccines and other biological products.

Technical Disease Cards
The OIE has prepared technical disease cards for 33 important animal diseases, including 32 OIE-listed diseases. These are currently available in English only, but French and Spanish translations are being developed.

Terrestrial Animal Health Code
The aim of the Terrestrial Code is to assure the sanitary safety of international trade in terrestrial animals (mammals, birds and bees) and their products. This is achieved through the detailing of health measures to be used by the veterinary authorities of importing and exporting countries to avoid the transfer of agents pathogenic to animals or humans, while avoiding unjustified sanitary barriers. The Terrestrial Code is published annually in English, French and Spanish.

World Animal Health Information Database (WAHID) Interface
The WAHID Interface provides access to all data held within OIE's World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS). The information available includes immediate notifications and follow-up reports submitted by Member Countries in response to exceptional disease events occurring in these countries as well as follow-up reports about these events. There are also six-monthly reports describing the OIE-listed disease situations in each country and annual reports providing further background information on animal health, on laboratory and vaccine production facilities, etc.

ProMED-mail

A program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases

ProMED-mail (the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases) is a global electronic reporting system for outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases and toxins. Sources of information include media reports, official reports, online summaries, local observers, and others. Reports are often contributed by ProMED-mail subscribers. A team of expert human, plant, and animal disease moderators screen, review, and investigate reports before posting to the network. Reports are distributed by email to direct subscribers and posted immediately on the ProMED-mail web site.

GLiPHA - Global Livestock and Health Atlas

FAO

The Global Livestock Production and Health Atlas (GLiPHA) is an interactive electronic atlas using the Key Indicator Mapping System (KIMS) developed by the World Agriculture Information Centre of FAO. The atlas provides a scaleable overview of spatial and temporal variation of quantitative information related to animal production and health through the combination of maps, tables and charts.
