Welcome to the tomato leafminer portal. The tomato leafminer (Phthorimaea absoluta) is native to South America and feeds almost exclusively on tomato. Following its introduction into Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, it has caused extensive economic damage.

The impacts of P. absoluta (formerly Tuta absoluta) can be severe, with yield loss reaching 100%. Other impacts include increasing tomato prices, bans on the trade of tomato, an increase in use of synthetic insecticides, disruption of integrated management programmes of other tomato pests, and increased cost of crop protection.

This portal contains a selection of news, research, practical extension materials, videos and other resources on P. absoluta. Below is a sample of the resources available. To see the full list, click the ‘see more’ links below, or search using the search bar above.

This information comes from many organisations and sources. If you have resources that you would like to be included, please contact isc@cabi.org.
