Abstract

Evaluation of botanical pesticides as grain protectants against rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae Linn.

Abstract

Twenty plant products were evaluated against Sitophilus oryzae. Only 7 products significantly reduced adult populations and weight loss of grain. Neem seed oil was the most effective, followed by Piper nigrum seed powder, leaves of Vitex negundo, leaves of Andrographis paniculata, dried mandarin fruit peel, rhizome powder of turmeric and seed powder of Cassia fistula, resp. This paper was presented at a National Symposium held on 21-22 January 1990 in Rajahmundry, India.
