Applicants should state how they aim produce a game that to adheres to the following CONTENT requirements:

A training tool that will allow plant doctors to:

• Enhance their ability to negotiate pest and disease diagnostic processes
• Improve their ability to apply principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), as outlined in Plantwise policy and training material, when giving advice to farmers.

Development must demonstrate organisational access to plant health scientists to utilize as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

A training tool with an assessment component that will allow plant doctors to:

• Demonstrate their understanding of Plantwise training material and observation skills.
• Gather data that indicates how well plant doctors have understood Plantwise training material

A training tool that can be usable within Plantwise by: 

• Integrating into the existing Plantwise training programme
  • Based upon existing Plantwise training material
  • Build on face to face training to add additional depth and value
  • Operates within Plantwise policy guidelines.
  • Meet the outlined learning objectives of Plantwise training
  • Output assessment data in a format that can easily be interpreted by Plantwise training officers.
  • Store assessment data in a format that can be integrated with existing Plantwise data 
  • Target plant doctors in South East Asia and Eastern Africa

A training tool that is: 

• Engaging and fun
• Functional (bug free)
• Scalable for future development
  • Integration of new content
  • Localised for new demographic
  • Able to transition to new platforms

Applicants should state how they aim produce a game that to adheres to the following TECHNICAL requirements:

Gameplay and interaction 

• Simple, engaging and intuitive user interaction.
• Short session based play with a replayable design.
• Replayable design should allow for progressive knowledge and skill acquisition
• Sessions can be paused and resumed at a later time.
• Gameplay should not be reliant on high end processing or expensive peripherals.
• Gameplay should align with the expected observable outcomes.
• Game context or narrative should align with Plantwise objectives.
• Gameplay should be balanced and suited to game skill levels of the demographic.

Game Visuals 

• Visuals should align with the Plantwise material and personal preferences of the demographic.
• Visuals should not be reliant on high end processing power.
• Visuals should represent real world diagnostic symptoms and scenarios in a faithful manner
• Visuals should be well crafted and polished to appeal to both the user and CABI.

Assessment Feedback

• Users should receive simple and intuitive feedback on their understanding of Plantwise training material and observation skills
  • Possibly in the form of a competitive scoring system (within local groups)
  • Plantwise staff should be able to analyse game assessment data to identify gaps in the users knowledge and observation skills.
  • Recorded assessment data should formatted so it can be easily integrated into CABI database and analysis systems.
  • Recorded assessment data should be stored in a secure location that can be accessed by Plantwise staff.

Development Method 

• Follow a user driven design process with emphasis on scoping and analysis.
• Follow Iterative design development and testing process.
• Conduct learning and engagement focused playtesting.
• Follow Agile Project management techniques.
• Produce a product within a 7 month period.

Programming Requirements

• Game should be coded in a way that is extensible and able to be expanded in future versions.
• Game should be based on robust software architecture.
• Conform with industry standards of modern programming languages and techniques.
• Scalable database design.
• Art pipeline that is flexible and data driven.

Delivery Platforms

• PC, Smartphone (iOS and Android), Tablet (iOS and Android), Web

Research Requirements

• Be associated with a reputable research institution
• Have experience conducting research in the Plant Health sector
  • Development requires access to Plant Health scientists to utilize as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Have experience conducting research in the social science sector, particularly with Impact Assessment
