Introduction to Cab Direct
A new version of Cab Direct was launched in June 2009, and has now fully replaced the old Cab Direct search interface. For more information please use this link. For some simple tips on seaching Cab Direct, and to access PDF files of simple and advanced search tips, please follow this link. There are some differences compared with the previous version of Cab Direct - for example, search phrases and 2-word terms must be surrounded by double quotes as in the example "heritage tourism". When limiting searches to particular fields, the field is now placed before the search term rather than after: e.g to search ecotourism within the database index, use de:ecotourism.
Search Terms
You can use the keyword search fields to help pull out the records most relevant to your research. Terms in these fields have been entered by subject specialists and indicate a useful paper relating to that term. Terms can be found in the CAB Thesaurus: these are selected to cover key concepts and avoid duplication. Some tips for searching the database using Cabicodes and Descriptors in the leisuretourism subject areas are available here.
Selecting the Leisure Tourism Database
Please note that when searching Cab Direct (accessed through the 'Abstracts Database' tab), the default is that you will be searching all the subsets of CAB Abstracts that your institution subscribes to. To search only within the Leisure Tourism database, either incorporate "sc:3r" within your search, or filter the search results by scrolling down the page to below 'Your subscriptions' on the left and clicking on 'Leisure, Recreation, Tourism' to view only the results found in the Leisure Tourism Database.
