Abstract

Invasive alien woody species in Pacific island forests.

Abstract

The introduction of some invasive alien woody species, which dominates the understorey, strangle saplings and suppress native species, promote fires, and alter water and nutrient availability, in the forest ecosystems of the Pacific Islands of USA, is described. It is emphasized that the 'best management practices' should include removal of known invasives, and their use should be discouraged.
