Abstract

This large book presents data on 200 important indigenous and exotic trees of India which can be considered for planting in different climatic zones. The book is divided into 3 parts covering broadleaves, common cultivated bamboo species, and conifers, and within each part species are arranged in alphabetical order of scientific names. Information given (but as a different selection for each species) includes local, common, trade and English names, a botanical description, and details of geographical distribution, site factors, phenology, silvicultural characters, artificial (and natural) regeneration (including seed collection and treatment, nursery and direct sowing/planting techniques, silviculture and silvicultural systems and management, role in agroforestry), pests and diseases, growth and yield, and utilization. References are given at the end of each species section.
