Proceedings of the regional seminar 'Shade trees and crops associated with cocoa, 9-11 October 1991, Turrialba, Costa Rica.

Abstract

Twenty four presentations are included in these proceedings, which are organized in 5 parts: (1) 16 papers on various aspects of shade trees and crops in cocoa plantations in Central America - economics, soils, pests and diseases, cultural methods and species used, temporary shade species, and 'agroforestry systems' aspects; (2) 7 country reports from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras (2), and Nicaragua (2); (3) a support document, being a manual from CATIE making recommendations on promising species for cultivation in place of traditional tropical crops such as cocoa (Macadamia spp., Pouteria sapota, Piper nigrum, Bixa orellana, Capsicum spp., Bactris gasipaes, Annona muricata, Cucurbita spp., Vanilla planifolia, Pachyrhizus spp.); (4) working group reports; and (5) annexes - details of the conference programme and participants.
