Abstract

Attack of Ganoderma on Acacia auriculiformis and Acacia mangium.

Abstract

Inspections of plantations of these 2 Acacia species (which are generally resistant to attack by decay fungi) in the districts of Midnapur, Bankura and Purulia, West Bengal, showed the presence of Ganoderma sp. causing top drying of trees accompanied by defoliation. Fruit bodies of the fungus were observed at the base of mature trees and some of the trees had become hollow. The primary source of infection appeared to be older stumps.
