Acacia mangium: growing and utilization.

Abstract

This book is the first in a series planned by the Consultative Group for Research and Development of Acacias (COGREDA), formerly sponsored by the F/FRED Project. It consolidates knowledge on Acacia mangium from published literature, unpublished reports and studies, and observations by those familiar with the species. After an introduction, the information is presented in 12 chapters, each indicating priorities for further research. There is a concluding summary and 2 appendices give lists of seed suppliers and of scientists studying the species. The chapters are entitled: (1) Taxonomy, distribution, biology, and use as an exotic; (2) Reproductive biology; (3) Genetics and tree improvement; (4) Vegetative propagation; (5) Nursery practices; (6) Symbiotic associations; (7) Silvicultural practices; (8) Growth and yield; (9) Insect pests; (10) Diseases; (11) Properties and utilization; and (12) Economics and market prospects. A subject index is included.
