Abstract

Tropical acacias have been introduced into Peninsular Malaysia since the early 1930s. A. mangium has been selected as the main species for the Compensatory Plantation Programme of the Department of Forestry, Peninsular Malaysia. A. auriculiformis is a popular species in soil improvement trials and as a shade tree. A. aulacocarpa has been used to reforest burnt and cleared areas and to rehabilitate mined lands. A. richii has been used to rehabilitate degraded land.
