Miscellaneous
A monograph of neotropical Meliaceae (with accounts of the subfamily Swietenioideae by B. T. Styles and the chemotaxonomy by D. A. H. Taylor).
Abstract
[See FA 37, 3557] A revision of the American Meliaceae (about 120 neotropical species) including sections on taxonomic history, morphology, generic variation, distribution and speciation. The systematic treatment, which includes many line drawings and maps, gives a description of the family, a key to the 14 genera covered, and sections on each genus including species keys, descriptions and distributions, and lists of doubtful and excluded species. The chapter on chemotaxonomy is concerned with the occurrence of limonoids (characteristic oxidized triterpenes); structural formulae are given and data are tabulated for species which have been chemically analysed. Also included are a numerical list of taxa covered and indexes of vernacular and scientific names.
