Types of Membership

CABI works in partnership with national governments and many public and private organizations globally to achieve our objectives and broaden our impact. 

CABI has two main types of membership:

  • Country membership (national Governments)
  • Affiliate membership (public and private organizations)

Each of our member countries has an equal role in the organization's governance, policies and strategic direction, in addition to enjoying a number of privileges and services relating to our scientific expertise, products and resources. Most importantly, CABI membership give national governments a leadership role in directing and influencing the global development agenda through our work and that of our international network of partners.

  • regular regional consultations shaping CABI’s activities to address members’ needs
  • voting rights at CABI Review Conference and Executive Council meetings
  • approval of annual budget and accounts, CABI strategy and priorities, and appointments of Board Directors and the Chief Executive
Projects, products and services
  • free access to CABI information products for one institution or governmental agency (member countries in Bands 1 – 4) and discounts on purchase of CABI information products 
  • free microbial identification service for up to 40 samples (member countries in Bands 1 – 4)
  • free policy and project development support (up to 3 consultancy days) 
  • use of CABI facilities worldwide at preferential rates
  • priority considerations for CABI training courses, project development and global initiatives (eg Plantwise)
  • access to the CABI Development Fund for joint project development
International collaboration and networking
  • the opportunity to share knowledge and experience with other members, and develop joint projects to address common goals global networking opportunities (with public, private and civil society organisations)
  • links to CABI’s research centres around the world and privileged access to scientific resources 
  • free and exclusive access to the member gateway (members only website)
Become a country member

CABI country membership is determined among our member countries and requires formal submission by the country concerned. If you would like to become a member country of CABI, send a letter addressed to our Chief Executive Officer expressing your interest. He will contact you outlining the next steps.

Our Affiliate Programme is a great example of partnership in action, enabling organizations representing stakeholders whose activities have an important and direct bearing on CABI’s work, to influence our work and interact with both CABI and Member Governments.
