Abstract

The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council launched a Coordinated Research Programme aimed at screening of germplasm of potato under varying environmental stresses in Pakistan for yield potential and resistance to diseases and tolerance to hot and cold climates, standardizing agronomic practices, study possibilities of seed production, identifying diseases of economic importance, and determining alkaloid contents of potato cultivars. This project terminated on 31 March 1981 and generated very useful scientific information for providing a sound base to any potato improvement programme in Pakistan. The outstanding research results achieved under this coordinated project are summarized.
