back veneer
veneer used for the concealed or unfinished side of plywood and veneered panels
backcross
to cross a hybrid to either one of its parental types -note backcrossing is particularly effective in transferring simply inherited characters from a donor parent to a deficient but otherwise valuable recurrent parent -see cross-pollination, hybridization, introgression

Backcross
Genetics: Mating the result of a cross with its parent to reinforce or increase the gene frequency of a desired characteristic.
backcut
the final cut in felling a tree, made on the opposite side of the direction of fall

Back-forecasting
Checking the validity of a forecasting method by using it to make a 'forecast' for a period for which the outcome is already know.
Bacteria
Single celled organisms, usually considered as belonging to the plant kingdom, which reproduce by fission.

Bacterial streaming
Under microscopic examination, bacterial cells may be seen emitting from the cut edge of infected tissue. This is an indicator that the cause of disease MAY be pathogenic bacteria, and should be followed by further diagnostic tests.
