CABI appoints Semantico to deliver online solutions

24 April 2008

Leading agricultural publisher CABI has appointed consultancy firm Semantico to redevelop its flagship CAB Direct online delivery platform.

The CAB Direct platform hosts the world-renowned applied life sciences bibliographic databases CAB Abstracts and Global Health. CAB Direct provides access to these key resources directly from CABI.

Andrea Powell, CABI’s Executive Director of Publishing said:

“We are delighted to be working with Semantico on this major project; their response to our tender document showed their thorough understanding of our requirements, their technical capabilities and their expertise in developing innovative systems for the online publishing industry.

“The CAB Direct platform is central to our business strategy and it is essential that we have a strong technology partner who can meet both our and our customers’ expectations. We are confident that Semantico can fill this role, and we are all excited about working with them.”

Richard Padley, Chief Executive Officer, Semantico said:

“We are thrilled to be working with the team at CABI on this project. Our strengths in user centred design and information architecture will help us to deliver a vastly improved user experience for CABI’s customers.

“Seamless content discovery will be at the centre of the new CAB Direct platform. The approach we’re taking will give CABI maximum flexibility to re-use their bibliographic databases and discovery services in new ways in the future.”

This major development project will take place during 2008, with the release of the next generation CAB Direct platform scheduled for early 2009.
