Animal Health and Production Compendium:
"Excellent as an aide memoire and a first stop for
reference."
Veterinary Review, January 2003
"The AHPC is an electronic tool, with a user-friendly
interface...removing the need to search separately through numerous
sources."
Appropriate Technology, Vol. 29, No. 3
"The Compendium is attractive, the searches work fast, and, in
terms of its remit - to educate in the areas of production and animal
health - it works well."
Animal Welfare, Vol. 12, February 2003

Supporting the development of livestock production systems in different
socio-economic and environmental conditions is a big challenge. I believe
in the empowerment of local people, a grass-roots approach with real
participation of the concerned actors, and the sharing of knowledge. I
have relied on and benefited from outputs of CAB International for
several years. I am looking forward to receiving the Animal Health and
Production Compendium. The company that I work for has joined the
project's Development Consortium, and is going to buy this Compendium to
use as a technical resource that we can share with our clients.
Brian R. Manger, Information Consultant, Pfizer, USA
Easy and intuitive navigation.... As I see it, the Compendium will be a
useful retrospective text… and will not replace current awareness
searching, but will rather supplement this.
Jens Peter Christiansen, Associate Professor (Poultry Diseases), Royal
Vet and Agricultural University, Denmark
It will be helpful to have many different information sources gathered
in one place instead of having to look up many books.
Paul McMullin, Veterinarian, Poultry Health Services, UK
A large amount of readily searchable data.... would simplify and
speed-up searching for information.... an interesting development.
Paul Roger, Veterinary Surgeon, UK
Could be a bedrock reference to direct to other sources for further
details. Excellent as an aide-memoire and first stop for reference. It
collates information, which could take some time to gather.
Peter Wollesen, Livestock Advisor, Darudel, Denmark
As our company is involved in development work in the developing world
the Compendium could be a useful tool for the staff working in
livestock-related projects.
Tesfaye Kumsa, Researcher (Cattle Production), Ethiopian Agricultural
Research Organization, Ethiopia
It provides quick and readily available information on nearly all
important aspects of livestock production. My research centre is placed in
a remote area and is not serviced with a library. Reference material is a
major drawback to undertaking research and the Compendium will bridge this
gap.
L Vaughan, Veterinary Surgeon, University College Dublin, Ireland
Comprehensive reference source with easy universal access - no need to
go to a library to source information.
Susanne Whitaker, Veterinary Medical Librarian, Cornell University, USA
A Compendium on animal health and production is an excellent idea to
bring together useful information from many different sources. It will
save time by pre-assembling a wealth of information in one resource. It
will serve as a resource for students learning veterinary medicine and
animal production science.
Steve Jagger, Nutritionist, Dalgety Feed Ltd, UK
A large reference database will be available at the touch of a button.
This will reduce the time searching for reference material.
J Kusina, Animal Science Department, University of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe
It provides a large database on a compact, easy-retrieval system…. my
institution would have ready access to current information for teaching,
research and consultancy purposes.
Dave Cavanagh, Institute for Animal Health, UK
It is very user-friendly. I like the 'free text search'; the ability to
gather information from throughout the CD in a way practically impossible
with a book.... The Compendium could be a 'one-stop shop' for many people,
much of the time. The Compendium offers much more than a book can, in a
user-friendly way; that's good. The ability to add [notes] to the
Compendium and abstract pictures etc from it is important for those
involved in lecturing and teaching at all levels.
Henry Greathead, Lecturer, University of Leeds, UK
An accessible source of pooled data. The Compendium pools together much
information that would otherwise have to be located in a conventional
library, therefore saving much time and effort.
