Sugarcane and energycane.

This paper discusses sugarcane production/cultural practices (including liming and fertilizer application, water requirements and irrigation, harvesting and ratoon growth), breeding, and as biofuel crop. Sugarcane is a proven biofeedstock that accounts for 40% of biofuel production worldwide. It is one of the most efficient crops in converting solar energy into chemical energy and is among the most favourable in terms of energy output/input ratios. Through future breeding efforts, it is expected that energycane selected for cold environments will be a major feedstock contributor to biofuel production.
