Shellfish diseases (viral, bacterial and fungal).

This chapter describes several new genera and families for viruses, bacteria, and fungi that have emerged from shrimp disease investigations alone. The chapter highlighted the molecular tools that have also proven useful in grouping related microbial agents, despite very different species and geographic locations of infections. This information is valuable for enhanced diagnostic/screening applications and effective disease control measures.
