Abstract
During a survey of potato diseases in Skardu region, northern Pakistan carried out in Aug. 1994, potato plants were found in the Astak valley showing root galls and tuber symptoms typical of those caused by S. subterranea. Plants and soil were brought to the CDRI lab. at NARC, Islamabad and replanted in pots. One plant when uprooted, showed new root galls and powdery scab lesion in the cauliflower stage on daughter tubers. The root gall and tuber lesion preparations showed typical spongy-like resting spores of S. subterranea antisera in ELISA. Based on these findings, the occurrence of S. subterranea in Skardu is confirmed.
