Abstract
Rica is a determinate open-pollinated table type variety of tomato derived from the cross of Grand Pope, a farmer's variety and C-111, a selection from a tomato germplasm with processing qualities. Rica is very vigorous and highly prolific. It has comparable and even better performance than the control cultivars PSB Tm 9 and Marimar. It is selected for its outstanding performance in observational and replicated trials done at the IPB Experiment Station in the Philippines. It was also selected by farmers as a potential off-season variety when it was evaluated in on-farm trials from 1999-2001 across different tomato growing areas in the country (BAR 2008). In the trials conducted by the National Seed Industry Council (NSIC), Rica was evaluated for three dry and wet seasons in seven locations during dry season and in five locations during wet season.
