We are experts on fungi and bacteria. We manage the UK's National Collection of Fungus Cultures of 28,000 living strains. We have recently entrusted one of the world’s largest reference collections of preserved fungi containing 400,000 specimens to Kew.

Our key expertise is in mycology. We use a combination of morphological and molecular methods to identify fungi to species level. We can provide information on the properties of a fungus and advise if it is harmful or has useful attributes. In the UK, this expertise is unique to CABI.
We offer a range of microbial services to businesses, academic institutions, agriculture and government departments worldwide. Our customers come from industries such as; food and drink, medicine, research and environmental conservation.

Our team of scientists is headed up by Keith Holmes and includes mycologists, molecular biologists, bacteriologists, ecologists and systematists, all with many years’ experience and trained to the highest level.
